The Little Brother Syndrome

Max has started taking notice to everyone around him and has become smitten with the big boys, Noah and cousin Mason. I've noticed that if I talk and sing to him he is content for a few minutes and then cries to be picked up. But plant him down in sight of his big brother, content for hours. Lately the big boys are taking notice of the little guy too.

After playing outside last week Mason went over and took baby Max's hat off for him. I was so proud of my little helper. Unfortunately after this my little helper decided he needed to rock Max and started shaking the swing so hard I feared for shaken baby syndrome.

Noah has been really attentive to Max lately. Whenever he finds an extra pacifier around the house he says "Binkie for baby Max." He then proceeds to bring the pacifer to wherever Max is hanging out. Unfortunately, somewhere along the way Noah decides that the pacifier he is delivering to baby Max is much more appealing then the one he has in his own mouth. So he trades them out really quickly, and tries to slip Max the one he has already slobbered all over. Such a big brother move. The other day I found him reading a story to Max. It made my heart skip a beat.
And Max didn't seem to mind that book chosen for storytime was one of Noah's bath books with virtually no words and no pictures. Look at Max's face in the picture. Pure happiness. Big brother this is the best book ever.
Definitely a case of Little Brother Syndrome. Oh Max, I fear for the day you start chasing after the big boys and are turned away. But you are destined for great things. You are growing bigger and stronger by the day and its hard to imagine you living in anyones shadow.

Take heart in the little brothers that have broken free. You will be the Eli Manning of your day.
