RIP Noah's Tonsils

Yesterday was Noah's surgery. Tonsillectomy, adenoidectomy, ear tube removal, and manipulating his ear drum. That's a lot to type out, let alone for a 3 year old to go through in one day. But this kid is tough. And I am so proud to be his mama.

The night before I had channeled my nervous energy into packing, repacking, and overpacking. I didn't tell him much except we were going to see the Dr who was going to make his owies better. Dad and grandpa thought this was the worst prep ever since he came out of it feeling like he got hit by a truck. Next time I'll buy one of those "Johnny goes to the Dr" books for him and call it good.
Noah before the surgery watching one of the 300 movies I packed.
And looking oh-so-cute in his yellow scrubs.
His smiles before were bittersweet. No parents ever wants to see their kids hurt. I was tempted to smuggle him out and sneek the name badge on dad or grandpa. They are both snorers so the surgery wouldn't have been totally in vein.
Was thankful they gave him a premed of narcotics and Versed. He was so sleepy and loopy that staying back while he was wheeled away wasn't nearly as hard as I anticipated. Especially since he thought I was floating around the room. Let's keep this kid off drugs.
Some sedated laughs with dad.
The surgery went as well as we could have asked for. The surgeon told us we would have a good 35 minutes before he woke up. We went and got some food and were shorty paged to come back to his room. He was there already, haven woken up early in PACU and was not happy about it. The first 30 minutes were awful. He cried, tried to pull out his IV, and begged for tylenol. But as the anesthesia wore off he mellowed out and has been a trooper ever since.
Here's him resting after the big storm. He's holding tight to his new favorite toy that grandpa picked up at K-Mart on the way to the hospital. Meanwhile, the ridiculously overpriced toys Geno and I binged and purchased from the hospital gift shop while he was in surgery are thrown in the corner somewhere.
Back at home last night we were Up. All. Night. He was just in too much pain to sleep.
I took this picture of our all nighter to remind him to be nicer to me when he's a teen.
This morning has been better. He's been smiling, drinking more, eating a little, and much more himself.
And has loved all his spoiling and visitors.
Especially his auntie/godmama who brought him a toy puppy and movies this morning.
And she brought me starbucks. Which is why there are so many pictures of her on here today. Thank you all for the prayers, phone calls and emails. Noah is eating it up and loves to be loved.

RIP Noah's Tonsils
Feb 2007-March 2010
You were disease ridden and disgusting to look at.
You were too big and crowded out the rest of us.
Your passing was grieved by noone.

Jeffrey and I are laughing out loud to your humorous musings here. I cringed thinking about the pain of seeing him those first 30 mins afterward. Glad you all made it through and are now home and recovering.

For up all night, you're looking like a 10 in that pic, Jess.

Love you!

Glad it went well! He is a very strong boy and is blessed to have parents like you two to take care of him. I hope he continues to get better quickly!

Are you telling me all they give kids post surgery is Tylenol? Bast**ds! Really? I sure hope I read that wrong. I'm ready to kick someone's a** for my little friend! Hang in there all of you - my Grandma once told me when I complained about being up all night with Henry, "One day he won't let you kiss him in public. Just hold him." Glad you seem to know this already.

So good to hear Noah is recooperating and you're doing okay too! I love the "blackmail" photo...isn't it amazing what mothers do? Now I can't imagine life without baby! Those boys are so lucky!
