Its Baaack

"
Umm...guys? Seeing as I can't really see at this point, I'm trusting you got all that gunk off me and  everything looks A-Ok? Great. Don't want any surprises popping up later.

Memo to Max's umbilical cord: I have been feeding Max with great success for this last month. You served a great purpose in supplying Max with nutrients at one time, but the day you wrapped yourself around his neck, we all celebrated you being dumped deep into a medical waste bin. Now apparently you are back to haunt us and it is time you moved on.

Geno first noticed something strange with Max's bellybutton over the weekend. A small little bubble had appeared and protruded when he cried. I thought I was pretty smart in my diagnosis of an umbilical hernia, the Dr. on the phone thought possibly a skin tag. Brought him in today and the Dr. said, "Well isn't this interesting." That's never a good sign. Or when they turn and call, "Hey Dr. So and So, you should come see this." Also not a good sign. Turns out this thing on his bellybutton is a piece of the umbilical cord. Eww. And this fun little souvenir is not something the Dr could remove because it is still being supplied blood by Max's internal system. So my little man is already scheduled for his first surgery next month. I tried to google a little more about residual umbilical cords and the only site that had a hit was "The Something Awful Forums." You had to join to see the content and I'm thinking this Something Awful group is not something I want to share my email address with at this time. I have enough of my own awfuls, I don't need a whole community trying to share theres with me too.

Poor little guy! I cant believe that he has his first surgery in a month! I know someone at work who's grandson had the same surgery. He was a few months older than Max when they discovered it, but everything turned out just fine.

Well, crap - that sounds like no fun. I certainly hope it is causing him no pain and will look forward to hearing of his swift removal and recovery! We're thinking of him and you.
