Big Fish

With record breaking heat temperatures this month we have been spending most of our waking hours at the pool. We signed Noah up for swim lessons. I know what you are thinking. Swim lessons for 2 year olds seems crazy. You just mastered sliding down the slide without me waiting at the bottom. And now I think you are ready to learn to swim this summer mister. Not likely. But the whole idea was to get him comfortable in the water. I had no idea that the first week it would be such a struggle to get you in the water. And no idea that now, such a struggle to get you out. My big fish.

The first day. Your lifeguard negotiating with you to get in the pool. You held strong.
Here you are telling him "I'm two." Or maybe "Peace out guy. I'm not going swimming with you."
So he left you there. And said sink or swim buddy. You're on your own.
Just kidding. But he did enlist the help of all his lifeguard buddies as well as dad and grandma to get you in the pool. You were outnumbered and surrendered.
And the rest is history. Every day and every week you loved it more and more. It was the first time I watched you be truly scared of something and get over that fear. So proud of you big fish.
And Max, fish jr, enjoyed all his time in the shallow end.
By the end of this summer you and your cousin have become so comfortable in the water. You can climb in, climb out, crab walk, kick your legs, and the ultimate cool... lounge poolside.
But noone expected this....
Least of all the lifeguards who are not at all excited about your running and jumping into the pool. I don't know how many more warnings they are going to give us. But we are excited. We are amazed. We are proud of you big fish.

I think you're a smart mom for getting him in the water now. Sure, it may seem early, but it's all about being confident and comfortable! This summer alone, I've been surrounded by kids who simply fear anything water related...and we live in an area where we're surrouded by it. So, good job! :)

Noah, maybe you can get your dad to take off the waterwings and teach him a thing or two.
