Easter

Easter this year, for us, was about family. I had hoped to take the boys to mass but changed my mind when I came down with pneumonia, Noah a sinus infection, and Max ear infections. I remember an Easter when I was young, crying that I couldn't wear my Easter dress because I was covered in chickenpox. Sadly, I think I passed my holiday illness tradition on to my kids.
But Noah and I did have a conversation about Jesus. I asked if he knew Easter meant that Jesus had risen into Heaven so that he could watch over us. And he said yes. So I pushed it further and asked if he knows who Jesus is. And he said yes. A friend of Elmo's. Ok. Permanent marker on the calendar to take him to mass next Sunday.
We woke and gave the boy's their Easter baskets. Max's favorite things were a glitter filled ball and a new book. Noah's was a toy robot. Which was immediately followed by a request to do his robot dance. My own fault for feeding into the obsession.

My family came over for Easter Brunch. Grandpa hid eggs for the boys to find in the back and Max slept through the whole thing.
Later we went over to Geno's moms and the rain came with us. Uncle Cub and Jess hid eggs for Noah to find around the house. He loved it. And didn't even notice when we sneakily put the eggs and 2 tons of candy back into the pantry later. If you think that's mean then you've never seen Noah after eating chocolate. Watch the Robot Dance video on fast forward and you'll get a visual. He just liked searching for the eggs anyway. And grandma figured we could reuse the candy next year. Does that stuff ever expire? Guess I'll have an answer for you in 2011.
Noah colored some eggs which seemed fun in theory. Sadly though he thought the eggs would make good basketballs and the cups of colored dye his baskets. Thus making our egg coloring journey a short one.
Me and my never ending crafts. I brought over easter cookie cutters, colored frosting and sprinkles. I love baking. It's just not on the top of my to do list with pneumonia. So I baked the cookies and then grandma took over while I passed out in the corner. The end result of grandma and Noah's decorating was a be-headed bunny with 5 layers of frosting, a duck with a container's worth of sprinkles on it, and two cookies with nothing on them. I took a picture and tried to relocate them to the garbage but they were intercepted by Geno. An iron stomach on that one.

It was a beautiful Easter spent with our families. Despite the sickness... and the sad realization that Noah thinks Jesus lives on Sesame Street. So, a little bible time worked into his story time and hopefully they'll still let him into Catholic School.

I'm pretty sure Jesus IS a friend of Elmos. You have one little theologian on your hands. :)
